Please join in singing for the Mass of the Solemnity of the Blessed Holy Mary, the Mother of God, next Tuesday, January 1 (New Year's Day), at 8:00 AM. Let's begin 2013 by offering thanks and praise to our God for all the blessings He has given to us and continues to shower upon us in this new year.

Our parish will be having its annual Misa de Gallo Novena Masses beginning this Sunday, December 16 - Monday, December 24 every morning at 5:00 AM. Two of these Masses will be on Sundays, so I have volunteered to direct the music for those two days (Sunday, December 16, and Sunday, December 23) and invite everyone to join in singing for those Masses. Although I am specifically asking about the two Sunday Masses, I invite everyone to join celebrating this great tradition every morning as we near the nativity of the Lord (Christmas).
Mass plans for these Masses have been posted to the Combined Choir page. Advent Communal Reconciliation Service
Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 7:00 PM Advent is a time of anticipation and preparation. As we await the coming of the Lord, let us purify our hearts, minds, and souls as we gather together for this Reconciliation ("Confession") Service. Join our Combined Choir for this special service. Receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this time is optional, but always highly recommended. Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 8:00 AM This special solemnity is a Holy Day of Obligation, which means all Catholics are expected to attend Mass on this special day in honor of Mary. Join our Combined Choir at the 8:00 AM Mass. The high school members of the OLS (Children's) Praise Choir recently combined with our Young Adult Ministry Choir to form our "newest" choir: InHarmony Choir!
The combination of the youth with the young adults helps to bridge a widening generational gap between the two groups and encourages both a vibrate youth ministry as well as a thriving young adult ministry. The Children's Praise Choir will continue under the direction of Nicole Sullivan and includes all children in 2nd-8th grade. InHarmony Choir is directed by music director Kainoa Fukumoto. This past weekend, we began the most solemn time of our Church year with the celebration of the Passion of Our Lord on Palm Sunday. The following is a calendar of events that pertain to our Music Ministry during this time:
Reminders:
Because of Holy Week, there are changes to our April choir schedule. So please check the calendar on the Music Ministry website (http://music.olswahiawa.org/calendarschedules.html) and note when your choirs are scheduled for practices and Masses. As we prepare for the close of this liturgical year, please check the "Calendar/Schedules" page for next years choir schedule ("Liturgical Calendar 2012"), upcoming Responsorial Psalms, as well as the schedule for Mass Settings.
Also, check the "Combined Choir" page for information regarding this year's Thanksgiving Mass. If you've visited this site before, the first thing you'll probably notice is the new layout. This hopefully reflects that the site is currently undergoing some updates and changes, so check back frequently for more details.
To help us in learning the new music for the acclamations we sing at Mass, a "New Mass Setting" page has been added. On that page, you will find recordings, sheet music, and the implementation timeline to assist the choirs and parish with learning the new music. We are just weeks away from the implementation day (November 26/27), so please take advantage of this page to become familiar with the change in music. |
