Kainoa Fukumoto
Kainoa Fukumoto began his piano studies at the tender age of five years old initially at Keiki Kani Music for several months. Eventually he moved to the studio of Na Mea Ho’okani Pila O Hawaii in Wahiawa. Under the tutelage of master piano teacher, Eileen Hirota, Kainoa continued his music studies through high school.
Being a student at the Kamehameha Schools, Kainoa was introduced to many musical opportunities from being in various school choirs to being an accompanist. As a self-taught vocalist and improvisitionalist, he was able to adapt to various styles and genres of music. After high school, he continued his musical studies at Leeward Community College, studying with piano professor Ruth Pfeiffer. He transferred to the University of Hawaii at Manoa and studied under piano professors, Dr. Thomas Rosenkranz and Dr. Jonathan Korth. Although classically trained, he specializes in contemporary improvistional techniques and has worked with various locally to internationally-known musicians.
Currently, Kainoa serves as the Music Director and accompanist at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Wahiawa, director of the St. Michael Youth Choir (Waialua), and also acts as a music consultant to the Office of Worship for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu. He is a piano instructor and director of the piano studies at The Performing Artist Academy in Kapolei and also teaches in Wahiawa at the studio of his former teacher, Eileen Hirota. He continues to be an independent performer and instructor as well as an accompanist/music consultant to various groups, churches, schools, and community organizations.
